The NFL is hoping to get rid of the infamous 'chain gang' with some new technology that can measure first downs more quickly.
The league plans to test a new 'Hawk-Eye' system from Sony during the 2024 preseason.
It would use stadium cameras to track the ball, and instantly notify officials when a first down is gained, without bringing the game to a halt for a chain measurement.
If successful, the Hawk-Eye system could be implemented as early as the 2025 season.
