Oh, boy.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (better known as PETA) sent a letter to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club Tuesday asking for Punxsutawney Phil to retire “to a reputable sanctuary and start using a cutting-edge animatronic groundhog that could actually predict the weather using artificial intelligence instead."
Look, I love animals, and I don't want to see them mistreated. But Phil lives like a hairy, bucktooth prince. He works ONE DAY A YEAR. He doesn't even have to climb out of his hole. A guy in a top hat pulls him out. It's a great gig.
Plus, if they replace Phil with an artificial intelligence rodent, he might actually be right once in a while, and we can't have that. It would violate Keystone State tradition.
